This is the behind-the-scenes story of William Joseph Mountjoy - also known as Bill Mountjoy or, simply, Billy. Many people think of Bill as a charismatic neighbor and generous friend. However, having this monster as my 'father' has been a nightmare - yet what I went through was merely a small fraction of the imprisonment and exploitation my mother, DeNese, endured.
These are the actual events in my life as candidly as my recollection permits.
Bill Mountjoy's abuse was physical, emotional, and financial. There's no need to take my word alone - there are videos, photos, and other documents that put his actions on display for all to see themselves.
The first 11 posts in Part I have been revised in 2024 to include documentation.
Over my childhood, we moved three times: Ages 0-6 (Annandale, VA), 6-12 (Vienna, VA), & 12-18 (Great Falls, VA) [Originally written in 2022; revised in 2024.]
Ages 18-23 (Written in 2022)
Ages 24+ (Available to Account Holders Only.)
I sustain a spinal cord injury and, now paralyzed, move into the Stone Manor residence in Lorton with Bill and DeNese. Bill is devastated, but not for the reasons one would expect.
DeNese has a debt to the IRS and is short on liquid funds; Bill promises me he will gift her the money she needs but forces her to sign a promissory note instead. Sadly, it won't be the last time.
Bill's sister-in-law, Jenny adds fuel to the fire.
Without DeNese's consent, Bill transfers half a million dollars DeNese had deposited into the joint account into one solely in his name.
Spending the better part of three consecutive years in the hospital, I stop counting after my 50th surgery. Delighted by the repercussions of my misfortune, Bill uses my health to gain sympathy and work-from-home accommodations.
Bill's mother, Dolores, declares that I'm not part of the Mountjoy family because she is convinced I am adopted. I decide to pull myself out of the never-ending toxicity; Jenny and the Mountjoy boys are convinced my refusal to pretend things are perfect means I'm the problem.
My mother fights an extensive legal battle due to the embezzlement of a former employee; Bill does what he can to make certain she fails. Down the line, evidence shows he had a much larger roll than anyone would have guessed.
Hacking into Bill's email, I uncover his affair with Julia, a teacher at Bennett Elementary in Prince William County. When DeNese confronts Bill, he becomes so livid that a neighbor suggests we sleep with a knife under our pillow.
Bill strikes DeNese so hard he breaks his own finger in the process. Fearing not just her life but mine as well, DeNese obtains an emergency protective order.
Bill's infidelity wasn't the only thing I exposed with the email hack; a trove of secrets among Bill and two other male friends isolates me from the neighborhood.
Bill unwillingly 'retires' from the AFL-CIO; Bill will continue to insist he was among the highest ranks of the union federation but that was from from the case.
After 20 years of tenants and little maintenance, I move back to the Vienna home when Bill is unable to secure a new tenant.
I desperately need a working wheelchair and, after it's clear it will not be covered by insurance, I attempt to raise money online. I'm largely unsuccessful - in part because of harsh criticism from my family; Bill and his older brother Johnny, are my most vocal opposition. The Mountjoy family cult doesn't care that my wheelchair is broken - they only care that people know about it.
After a heated altercation with Bill at the Lorton home, DeNese flees to our residence in Vienna. Bill follows DeNese and pounds on the door. Punches are thrown and police are involved.
Frustrated with Bill's increasing demands and abuse, we move.
I continue to struggle with my kidneys and related complications. Bill and his older brother, Johnny, express confusion and frustration that I am still alive.
DeNese has little choice but to go along with the narrative of a happy relationship with Bill.
After a year in Richmond, I return to the Vienna home despite it's increasingly deteriorated state; my health issues have increased and DeNese needs a safe haven.
DeNese files for reorganization of debt under bankruptcy law; Bill takes pleasure in the ability to micromanage her finances and squeeze her for repayment of 'loans.'
On March 25, 2015, Bill purchases a home in Florida and spends a growing amount of time in the sunshine state while rekindling a flame with Linda Yeatman Knoche.
A volcano erupts as several issues between Bill and his older brother, Johnny, result in Bill punching a hole through the wall.
Bill and his older brother, Johnny, bring significant distress into my life with an absurd fabrication - telling anyone who will listen that I am faking my pregnancy.
In preparing papers for court, DeNese discovers Bill has been claiming her deductions as his own. DeNese tells her attorney she is in fear of her life and he tries to come to a resolution.
Bill's largest enablers are his friends - often wealthy - and a handful of and minor celebrities. They are lured by his charisma and generally turn a blind eye to the abuse DeNese's endures.
In May 2018, Bill falls from a ladder while climbing a ladder in flip-flops to clean the gutters at the Lorton home. Once at the hospital, he tricks DeNese into visiting so Johnny can enter her home and retrieve his cell phone. This will be the last time I willingly speak to Bill. Initially it is thought his injuries are catastrophic, but Bill recovers..
In November 2018, a settlement agreement is drafted, but shortly before signing, Bill takes advantage of my need for an extensive surgery to break into our home.
2020-2022
Bill proceeds to make himself look more guilty everyday while one subpoena after another is taped to our door.
Although I need a caregiver for my disability and ongoing medical issues, I find myself trapped as caregiver to everyone else. I never thought life could be this hard. We work around the clock because, if we stop, everything collapses.
At age 4, my daughter lays in the pediatric ICU - unresponsive and battling hypothermia and infection. Bill decides to prolong her suffering - just because he can.
It is more challenging than it should be to liquidate DeNese's assets.
Having dropped 76 pounds, I desperately seek answers for DeNese's declining health.
Since I have not had time to take care of myself, I have been relying on Urgent Care visits for antibiotics and pain medication. At 4 AM, I find myself in the ER expecting to be sent home with a prescription. I'm told I cannot leave this time as I need Emergency Surgery today and several additional surgeries in the near future.
DeNese's teaching career is pretty much all she has left of her former life; a year and a half later that is gone as well.
It wasn't a fair fight from the start, but a dispute over poor legal advice leaves us stranded.
Bill Mountjoy ramps up his harassment over vacant land my mother purchased in Florida back in 1989.
DeNese contributed the vast majority of the funding to this home as well.
My Mother's Lifetime of Possessions
David Warrington, general counsel for the Trump Presidential Campaign, is appointed as the Special Commissioner of Sale.
I have to miss a pre-scheduled vital surgery just to not even be able to pick the date we are to finally enter my mother's home.
I am impulsive and unorganized; as a teenager, I struggled immensely and I didn't have to suffer.
DeNese's "coffee, rabbit, and spending addition" fuels her ability to earn top dollar.
Bill Mountjoy's Expense Reports
DeNese can just tell us herself - even if she'd rather stay silent.
The real question isn't why she didn't leave, but why Bill is living in the basement.
It's a Mountjoy family sport.
There's something missing at the father-daughter dance.
He couldn't even turn on the air conditioning.
Closing Thoughts and Reflections
In 2014, DeNese met a 29-year-old attorney, Bader Nasser Alomair, and was pulled into the inner workings of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Bill Mountjoy will never let go.
DeNese and Shelley skip packing and head out on the open road.
DeNese's childhood in the Florida panhandle was far from idyllic.
As a teenager, DeNese left her home in a heavily segregated Pensacola, Florida to come to DC at a pivotal time in the Civil Rights movement. In the midst of complete chaos, I recently stumbled upon the significance of this on her life.
DeNese always said she was trapped and no one would help her; I quickly discovered she was right.
This blog depicts actual events in the life of Shelley Mountjoy as truthfully as recollection permits.
Bill Mountjoy cancelled my health insurance in 2022. Without any warning, I accumulated significant medical debt and will continue to be left with additional unexpected expenses for life. You can contribute to a tax-deductible fund that can only be used for my medical bills and disability-related equipment at HelpHopeLive.
My mother, DeNese, used to financially support me due to my disability. Now, not only do I not have her help, but I struggle to support her, myself, and my young child without any help from family. Furthermore, Bill Mountjoy buried me alive with legal fees in a quest to deprive my mother of not just her home but her entire lifetime of hard-earned possessions.
Although Bill has gone out of his way to twist this story into one in which we have way more than we need to pay the bills, the reality is that Bill has taken pretty much everything. I'm beyond exhausted and overwhelmed. We rely on public assistance to meet our basic needs of food and safe housing. A neighbor has set-up a general fund for donations to our family.
